Introduction
Bouldering in the Black Forest: The Black Forest offers vast expanses of untouched nature, beautiful coniferous forests that remain green year-round. It’s no surprise that the occasional bouldering boulder appears here and there. Currently, the Black Forest bouldering area offers a selection of approximately 900 individual bouldering problems on the finest sandstone, set amidst a unique landscape that will make any boulderer’s heart beat faster. The holds are mostly round and easy, with the occasional hole; there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s a tricky and technically demanding traverse or simply a „straight on top“ of the boulder, the bouldering areas around the Nagold Valley are also perfect for beginners. So just give it a try! Our Kai will show you how it’s done!
Bouldering in the Black Forest – What you need to know!
However, we would like to provide everyone with some important information to ensure that nature, people, and animals are not harmed. Please make sure that you do not block any forest or private roads when parking. Please park only in designated parking spaces. If you are unsure, just ask us; we will always provide you with information about the parking situation.
It almost goes without saying that you shouldn’t run into the forest at night with headlamps to go bouldering; our forest inhabitants also need their peace and quiet.
When it rains, the sandstone often absorbs water. This makes the already soft rock even more fragile, and holds and footholds can break away. You can imagine it as if you were tossing a sugar cube into a glass of water; it loses its rigidity and practically dissolves. Hence a friendly tip: If the blocks are wet, please go to a bouldering hall; there are plenty of them in the Black Forest.
Last but not least, to protect yourself, it can be helpful to have insect repellent handy. The Black Forest is a tick-ridden area. If you struggle through the undergrowth to reach the rocks, you might end up with a tick. Therefore, we recommend scanning your skin after a visit to the forest.
