Boulderwald
Daniel Dörr — founder of Boulderwald, spotting in Fontainebleau
About me

I'm Daniel.
Boulderwald is me.

In 2019 I stood on real rock for the first time and founded Boulderwald that same year. Not because it was a good business model, but because I couldn't do otherwise. After roaming the forests of Fontainebleau for almost a month, chasing one new challenge after another, bouldering on rock had become a new purpose in my life.

I'm a DAV climbing instructor and boulder coach (Naturfreunde), certified in outdoor first aid. Since then I've done little else than take people out onto real rock.

I live in Gießen, Hessen with my wife and our dog Bambi. The Taunus mountains are practically my back garden.

Story

How it came about.

My first time on real rock: Fontainebleau in April, the Odenwald that summer. In the same year I found Boulderwald.

20
2020

The first courses of my own with Boulderwald. A passion becomes a profession.

My first self-guided Fontainebleau trip. My own tours turn into an offer for others.

DAV climbing instructor & boulder coach (Naturfreunde). For the regions a small, hand-picked team of coaches rounds me out.

What I stand for

Four things that aren't up for negotiation.

Owner-run, always

When you book a trip, you come with me. For the regions I have a small, hand-picked team of coaches instead of anonymous outside guides. On the trips I drive there myself, coach myself and cook with the group in the evening.

Small by design

A maximum of 8 people. That's not a marketing number, it's the limit at which I can still really coach everyone. That's how it stays personal.

Honest about the outdoors

The weather is part of the game: sometimes we switch spots, sometimes the rock is simply wet. I tell you early and honestly, instead of fobbing you off with 'it'll be fine'.

Passion, not a product

Boulderwald isn't my income optimisation, it's my life. People can tell, the participants say. I think they're right.

The coaching team

Small, hand-picked, personal.

On the trips I'm there in person. For the regions I'm backed by two coaches I trust blindly. Both have been on the rock for years.

Kai — Boulderwald coach Schwarzwald
Schwarzwald

Kai

Kai has been climbing and bouldering for many years and, as the operator of his own bouldering gym, has introduced countless beginners to climbing. He has lived in Calw-Stammheim since 2020, exploring the surrounding forests in search of new blocks, with a deep respect for treating nature with care.

Julius — Boulderwald coach Odenwald & Pfalz
Odenwald & Pfalz

Julius

Julius was born in the Odenwald and discovered his passion for bouldering in 2020. Ever since, the sport and being outdoors have been his whole world. He loves to pass on that heartfelt connection, away from the bustle of the bouldering gyms, and to walk your own path on the rock with you.
